Edinburgh is famous for high prices - so it's important to make smart decisions when spending money. Many home cleaning products can be quite pricey - but have you ever thought to make your own?

You can find loads of great ideas on Pinterest, but with everyone a little short on time these days, the team here at Big Dutch Cleaning Service in Edinburgh we have simplified the process by providing the easiest, quickest home made cleaning product recipes we know.

1. Homemade Degrease Spray
We swear by this in our own homes and those of our clients. Add 1 part Ammonia and 4 parts warm to hot water to a spray container. Perfect for quickly disinfecting / degreasing kitchen and bathroom areas!

2. Homemade Sink Un-blocker
Pour a cup of salt followed by a cup of baking soda down the offending plug. Add boiling water, and voila! Pretty much anything will be dissolved, including grease.

3. Homemade Stain Remover
Rubbing alcohol works wonders on stubborn permanent marker stains. Dip a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and then rub the area dry. This won’t work on the extreme stains, for which you may need a steam cleaner.

4. Homemade Brass/Silver Polish
Grab the Tomato Ketchup - wait, what? You did read that right! Got some silver or brass cookware lying around that’s looking a bit tarnished? Squeeze some ketchup onto a clean cloth and rub in the ketchup, rinse with lukewarm water and let dry.

5. Homemade Shoe Polish
Thinking about throwing away that banana peel? Think again! Banana peels serve as great shoe polish! Not only that, but banana peels can also naturally whiten your teeth! Blend a banana peel with some water, and create a paste, and use this as your teeth whitener/shoe polish. Who would've thought?
